It sounds more complicated than it is, and it is a fun DIY project. I chose to buy a cheap Arduino board off of Amazon, and then I built my own infra-red based timing bridge with IR sensors in the track that connects to the Arduino, and from there the events are sent to Race Coordinator for processing. To connect Race Coordinator to your track, you have a couple of different options, which are all described in the documentation.

The software is "donationware" - meaning you are free to use it, and all they ask for is a donation. You can even run different heats and then let the winners of each heat progress through like a knockout-type tournament. You can setup your races exactly how you want - for example, you can run a 5 minute "practice", before an actual race of let' say 10 minutes. It works like absolute magic and is insanely customizable, if you are somewhat savvy with things like XML files and configuration files you can make the interface appear however you like.

Hi there! So the software that I use is called Race Coordinator. I will leave my post here as it might be of value to someone, but my answer doesn't actually address OP's question, as u/byingling pointed out below, u/SCPhotog is using Carrera Digital, therefore Race Coordinator is probably not the best solution for him. That's probably my next move.ĮDIT: Just want to say thanks to everyone that chimed in on this thread.ĮDIT: Please read the comments below. I've downloaded the HSSRMS, but haven't peaked at it quite yet.

that as far as I know are, Bruce Yingling's HSSRMS, PC Lap Counter, and Carrera's race management program for the PC Unit 30349. please, on the PC hardware I'll need, the OS and your opinion of the, I think three available softwares. You guys have some experience with this? Is an old XP machine going to work for this, or do I need to dig up something with some 'oomph' behind it? So now I'm looking around the room at these old PC's and I'm wondering which one to grab and start fiddling with. I expected the delivery tomorrow, so it was a nice surprise to get it early. I ordered the Race-Link USB interface and it has arrived just shortly ago. I'm an old-school PC gamer, so I know a little and I have some old computers laying around. Of them, the PC connection seemed the most robust option. I've been looking at the options, that I've nailed down to, the tower, the lap counter, the AppConnect or the PC connection. so there's no way to really keep track of a race. The information was there, but sometimes you just don't know what questions to ask, and there's a lot to absorb.Īnyway. Myself and my kiddos are mostly happy with the set, but there are a few things, that, let's just say I wish I had known from the get-go. I posted here a few weeks ago about thinking about purchasing a track/kit, and I finally pulled the trigger on Carrera's Passion of speed set. but I promise I'll be doing the real research while I hope and wait for replies. So, I'm being a 'little' lazy, just asking.
